It’s a normal tendency, the heavier the thing is getting the more misconceptions spread over there. When blogging was in its initial phase (2000 – 2008) it was very simple. After that, as the term was getting popular, the more people misunderstood this.
Blogging is one of those most common terms about which might be misunderstood. Blogging now and blogging 5 years back is completely different. Some conceptions which might be right at that time may not be right in 2020.
Hey there, I am Madhusudan Somani and in this article, we’ll be discussing some common misconceptions people have about blogging.
Common Misconceptions About Blogging
- What Blogging actually is?
- SEO is everything
- Blogging is easy
- Blogging is costly
- Blogging is not a business
- Blogging has no future in 2020
- Blogging is the best way to make money online
What Blogging Actually Is?
The biggest misconception in blogging is that most of the people don’t even know the actual meaning of blogging. They either misunderstand blogging or don’t even try to understand it.
People think blogging is writing text-based articles. Ya, it was believed in starting days of blogging. But now in 2020, blogging is creating any content in any form. If a person is a YouTuber, then he is also a blogger. Even podcasting is also considered as blogging in some areas.
SEO is Everything
The next misconception in blogging is that people think SEO is everything. If you don’t know SEO in deep, then you can’t do blogging.
There was a time when this theory was true. at that time, the most effective tool to get the most out of blogging was SEO. Whether it be a white hat or black hat SEO.
White Hat SEO is using SEO as a tool to organise your blog in best ethical way, whereas Black Hat SEO is using SEO techniques in wrong way to get instant results from search engines.
But now as Google is introducing more and more algorithm updates, which are capable of understanding your content more and more from the end user’s intention.
Recently Google introduced BERT update, which is more realistic in sorting the search results. So focusing more on SEO, investing more money in SEO is not worthy in 2020. It won’t give you enough ROI as any other media could give.
Remember, I’m saying SEO is not Everything, but SEO is Something, which will be useful to get your blog more eyesights in Google. Just follow the basic SEO guidelines and you are good to go.
Blogging is Easy
Many people who are either not bloggers or just started their journey in blogging think that Blogging is very easy. Friends, I can say from my own experience that blogging is not that much easy as you think.
It requires a lot of effort, time and motivation to make your blog journey successful. Blogging is not just writing, it much more than that.
If you do blogging, then you have to do plan your content, then you write it. Now you share your blog-post on social media and other platforms. You need to promote your blog if required. And you have to keep your blog updated with the latest information to be ahead in the crowd.
Initially blogging was easy. It was easy for Amit Agarwal, Deepak Kankarju etc because they were the first movers in their niche. In fact, Amit Agarwal was the very first person who started this era of blogging in India.
But now in 2020, there is a lot of competition. You have to do a lot of hard work consistently to make your blog successful, Make a content strategy for your blog and execute it accordingly.
Blogging is Costly
This is the most common misconception comes in mind when anyone thinks about starting their first blog. Most of the people out there say that you have to buy a domain, reliable hosting to start your blog.
Domain does not cost much but hosting maybe a little bit costly if you are just starting your blog and not sure about its success. Especially at this time when the internet is full of blogs.
A study says, there is one unique blog for every 7 people in the world.
When you are just starting your blog. Play it safe. Don’t buy that costly hosting and even you don’t need to buy the domain itself. You can start your blogging with free platforms like Blogger, WordPress. If you don’t want to show ads on your blog then you can go for Medium. (I personally like Medium, because it’s all about great creative content)
Once you are getting a positive outcome from your blog, then you can buy your domain and a hosting anytime in the future.
Blogging is Not a Business
This is also a common misconception, which is believed mostly by those people who are not a blogger. They think blogging is nothing but just writing the shit of words, which no one wants to read.
If that was true, you may not be reading my blog MSS Articles. I agree that initially, people may believe that blogging is not a business. But now in 2020, blogging is no less than a business.
By the way, it all depends on the mindset of people. This thought can’t affect bloggers who are doing their hard work to make a living from their blog. The best example of a person who started a blog & treated that blog as a full business and got the Entrepreneur of the Year award for his blog. Yes, I am talking about Harsh Agarwal of ShoutMeLoud.
Blogging has No Future in 2020
As I said that there are so many blogs out there over the internet. It seems like the market of blogging is quite saturated. But this is not the case. Obviously there are a lot of blogs out there, but the percentage of quality blogs out of them is very less.
So if you are sure to provide quality and unique content to your audience, then you can have a bright future in blogging. But remember, you will have to do a lot of hard work to get there.
Blogging is the Best Way to Make Money Online
When it comes to making money online. Most of the people still believe that blogging is the most appropriate way to make it.
My friends, it’s not the case. As I said, blogging requires a lot of hard work, time and patience. If you want to make quick online money, then blogging is surely not an option for you.
But ya, your blog can make a lot of money for you, but only in the case if you nourished your blog accordingly. Blogging is like roping seeds of the tree. You have to choose perfect seeds, then suitable land and fertilizers. You will have to water your plant regularly.
And the most important thing is you have to be patient because it takes time to grow your plant to become a fruitful tree, so as in blogging.
