Recently Google announced officially about their new algorithm update named BERT. It is the next major update of its type after 5 years when RankBrain was launched.
No doubt, these updates are important, these have to be done to make the internet useful for users, not for SEO. With BERT update, Google will focus more on user-friendly content as it does with its every coming update.
Google launches almost 3-4 updates in their algorithm daily, and we don’t even know about the majority of those, because Google doesn’t want to let us know. But have you ever thought why Google announces some of the updates officially?
Hey there, I am Madhusudan Somani and you are reading this article at MSS Articles. Let’s start the discussion with why do Google launch these updates.
Why Google Launch Algorithm Updates?
The straight forward answer is that Google wants to make the internet more valuable for users because this is the role of “Google” in their business. These are some reasons about “why these updates”,
- One reason for this is to reduce Black Hat SEO practices.
- Google wants the reader to get the most appropriate information, which he doesn’t get with the previous algorithms.
- In this era of the internet, no one is secure about their business and monopoly. As Google bet Yahoo, any other search engine could also bet Google if it doesn’t provide more value.
There can be some more reasons, but I think it is clear to all about the need for these updates.

Now let’s touch the main point of discussion that why Google wants us to know about these algorithms…
Why Google Wants Us to Know about These Algorithms?
As you know, sometimes in a while, Google announce publically about some of their major algorithm updates and the potential outcome. Recently they announced about BERT as I said earlier. So what’s the reason, that they want us to know about that.
Google may also silently update their algorithms without letting us know as they do for most of their updates. But still, they let us know.
There can be four reasons for this as per my opinion,
- Because they are clearly visible.
- To reduce/stop Black Hat SEO practice.
- To help original content creators.
- To be the best Search Engine in the market.
Because They are Clearly Visible
When Google updates its algorithm, it’s clearly visible after some time. Now since everyone can see the impact, they can start generating some misconceptions about Google if they don’t get any big news about that.
As you can see in the above tweets, this is a reason why Google announce some of their major updates.
To Reduce Black Hat SEO Practices
When Google updates its algorithm, whether they notify us or not, people like we come to know about this updates with changed in SERP (sooner or later).
And when we crack the most alike algorithm, then some people use that to optimize their content with over practice. This is what known as Black Hat SEO.
Now, if Google announces any major update, then those people get warned about their content and overly practised optimization. This way Google might be trying to reduce black hat SEO practice by announcing these updates.
To Help Original Content Creators
As the black hat SEO goes on a hike, people who actually do hard-work in creating quality content gets harmed. Sometimes they can get disappointed.
Google here may be trying to let them know that with their coming update, the original content will be given more value and a black hat or wrong use of SEO will be penalised.
To Remain Best Search Engine in Market
This world’s market is not static. If we don’t approach the technology and advancements, we’ll be lacked behind.
Google is live because of the trust of users and content creators. If users stop using Google, or even if content creators stop optimizing content for Google, then there will be no value of Google as there is now for Yahoo.
Google is currently a Internet giant and wants to remain the single one with no near competition. This could only be possible if they earn the trust of users and creators.
They are getting the trust of users by giving them better search results. And they may be announcing some of their major updates to earn the trust of content creators.
These might the reason for announcing their algorithm updates. What do you think about these announcements? Let me know in the comments below.
No matter whether Google is announcing these updates for betterment for search results or for betterment of their own. Their updates really help them to show more relevant results which directly or indirectly giving more value to our internet.
The best thing is they don’t share any information inside the algorithm. Google just let us know about those updates and the potential outcome. As they said, Google BERT update may affect 1 in 10 searches.
Google also let us know about some of the fixes like they are going to penalise paid backlinks etc. And they don’t forget to remind the goal to optimize content for users, not for search engines.
